Robie House Field-trip

We had a wonderful trip to the Robie House . Here are some pictures...

How many parts of the egg did you find?

 We spent a few minutes today working with raw, unfertilized eggs. The children identified many parts that they didn't even realize existed... If you have an extra egg at home, ask them to show you what they learned:)

ISAT Time

Well, it's that time again... :) ISAT's are here!

Please be sure your child has a good breakfast each morning.

Please also make sure your child brings:

-       at least 2 sharpened - #2 pencils w/erasers

-       if possible -a small fresh fruit snack (in addition to their regular snack)

-       a water bottle

-       a book to read if he/she finishes the test before time is called

It's a Mystery...

When our office was being remodeled last year, the construction workers pulled up the old, original carpet in a storage room. They were shocked to find this paw print:

I took this picture and added the staple remover for perspective. I am not sure what type of animal it was (bobcat, raccoon,...?)- but the print is large.

The school was built in 1977. So at the time, the surrounding area was a huge cornfield (the houses north and west of the school did not exist.

So, what do you think it could have been? I haven't done any research on the animal print yet. The children want everyone to speculate and offer guesses first.

I hope everyone enjoyed the break. The children told me many entertaining stories of things they did over vacation:)

Our first week back is complete, and we are right back into the swing of things.

Keep practicing math facts nightly. I am seeing improvement:)

I'm sure you are aware that we are working on Long Division. I am teaching the children a number of strategies to help them - including the traditional method we were taught in school. Slowly, but surely, they are starting to feel more comfortable with it.

Today was so much fun - after the Social Studies  and Math tests were over:) We had a great classroom party! Thanks to Mr. F., Mrs. G., and Mrs. J. for all of your hard work and generosity.

 

Well, we have one-half of a school day before our winter break. I think everyone is ready for some well-deserved rest:)

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Break! Class went well today. The children are right back in the grove:)
Just a note: We will be finishing up Chapter 4 in math this week (Test Friday), and the timed test for a charm is 2 weeks away!
A favor... I am looking for a few parents to trace patterns on felt and cut them out this week. If you are willing and able to help, please jot a note in your child's assignment notebook. Thank you!
